Grands-Mères.net is a French website about home remedies, kitchen know-how and household tips, the kind that used to be passed down at the kitchen table. It was founded in 2012 by Virginie Verglas, a French journalist and author, and it has been publishing continuously ever since.
This section of the site is written for readers in the United States. It is not a translation of the French pages. Safety information changes with the border, not with the language: the emergency numbers, the poison control lines and the reference health authorities here are American ones.
They come from French family tradition, and from twenty years of collecting it. Most of the health articles in this section are drawn from Virginie Verglas's book The French Book of Natural Remedies, the American edition of her work on sixty-three everyday ailments.
We write them down because they are worth keeping, not because we claim they cure anything. A traditional remedy can be pleasant, harmless and ineffective at the same time, and we would rather say so.
In December 2014, Le Parisien Magazine listed Virginie Verglas among "the thirty who make the web", its selection of the most influential French web personalities of the moment.
In February 2015, the OJD, the body that certifies audience figures for French media, ranked Grands-Mères.net 54th among French consumer websites, ahead of several national magazines and broadcasters.
In 2016, French internet users voted Grands-Mères.net both Website of the Year and Most Popular Website of the Year in the Health category. The same year, Harris Interactive awarded the site its user experience excellence label, based on responses from the site's own visitors. The site received it three times.
Virginie Verglas has published with Éditions Michel Lafon since 2016. Her first book was reviewed in full by Dr Franck Gigon, a French physician specialising in phytotherapy and micronutrition, and was later translated into Italian.
These figures are historical and carry their dates on purpose. They describe how the site was received in France at the time; they are not a promise about anything.
Grands-Mères.net is published by GIANTZ SAS, a French simplified joint stock company with a share capital of 10,000 euros, registered office at 59 Place Travot, 49300 Cholet, France, registered with the Angers Trade and Companies Register under number 903 549 384, VAT number FR42903549384. GIANTZ SAS is wholly owned by SARL VERGLAS. The company is represented by its President, Cyril Verglas.
