Because the publisher is established in France, this site is operated under French and European data protection rules; this page describes what that means in practice for a visitor in the United States, and sets out the rights that California law gives you.
There is no account, no login, no newsletter sign-up and no form on this section of the site. We do not ask you for your name, your email address or any other personal detail, and we have no way to identify you as an individual.
The one exception is if you choose to write to us. Then we have your email address and whatever you put in your message, and we use it to answer you.
Audience measurement (Umami). We run our own analytics on a server we control. It records the page viewed, the referring site, the country, and the general type of device and browser. It sets no cookie and does not follow you from one site to another. We use it to know which articles are read.
Session replay: only if you agree. Our analytics tool can also record how a page is used. That part is not loaded unless you have given consent through the banner, and it stays off otherwise.
Google Analytics. Loaded with all storage signals set to "denied" by default. It only stores anything if you agree through the banner.
Google AdSense. This site carries advertising served by Google. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure advertisements, and personalised advertising involves sharing data with Google and its partners. You control this through the banner. Google's own explanation is at policies.google.com.
The consent banner appears on your first visit and lets you refuse everything that is not strictly necessary. You can reopen it at any time and change your choice, including withdrawing a consent you had given. Refusing does not restrict access to any article: the site works the same either way.
Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a "Do Not Track" or global privacy control setting.
The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives California residents the right to know what personal information is collected about them and why, to request a copy of it, to ask for it to be deleted, to ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. However, personalised advertising through Google AdSense can amount to "sharing" under California law. Refusing advertising cookies in the consent banner is how you opt out of that, and it takes effect immediately.
To exercise any of these rights, write to contact@grands-meres.net with enough detail for us to understand your request. We answer every request we receive. Since we hold no account and no identifier for you, there is often very little to hand over or delete, and we will tell you plainly when that is the case rather than invent a file.
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Our analytics server is operated by us. Google Analytics and Google AdSense are operated by Google, and data associated with them may be processed outside your country, including in the European Union and the United States, under Google's own terms.
